Yolanda Adams of College Station, Texas passed away on Sunday November 12, 2023.
Yolanda was born in Bombay, India on April 12, 1931, to a British mother and Italian father being the youngest with two brothers, Peter, and Bruno. The family moved to Florence, Italy during WWII where they lived with grandparents. After completing her education at a finishing school in Florence she attended business school in London and later worked as an Au Pair in Paris while attending culinary classes. It was after her return to Italy, when she met the love of her life, Lloyd Keith Adams, a US Army Pilot who was stationed in Verona. She first met Lloyd on a blind date set up by a best friend at a New Year's Eve party in 1958. They were married the following year. Lloyd and Yoli were stationed at numerous military bases in Italy, Germany, and several U.S. states throughout which time she mothered five children. The family settled in Mineral Wells, Texas where was active in the community playing tennis, bridge, and teaching cooking classes for the other military officer’s wives. In the early 1970’s they opened Adams Fashion Optical, the first optical store in Mineral Wells, and successfully serviced the community for years. After retiring from their business, time was spent with Captain Lloyd on their sailboat, True Heaven where many cherished memories were made. “Yoli” was always known as great cook and loved to host family and friends. She always invited you with her Italian accent and catchphrase “May I get you anything?” Offering drinks and food or if you were lucky, a seat at the dinner table.
Yolanda was preceded in death by her loving husband Lloyd Keith Adams, her parents Luigi Lari and Mary Kinneally Lari, and her brothers Peter and Bruno Lari.
She is survived by her five children: David Adams and wife, Allison of Mineral Wells, Texas; Paul Adams and wife Sherilyn; Laura Burdick and husband Bruce; Marc Adams and wife Tracy and Mary Adams and daughter Sevanna of whom all reside in College Station, Texas.
Yolanda was known as “Nona” to 12 grandchildren: Sarah, Claire, Jordan, Geoffrey, Madison, Zach, Keith, Chloe, John, Jett, Sevanna, Miles and a great-grandchild, Emma Kate.
A funeral mass at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church is scheduled for 10 am on December 9th with reception lunch to follow at 5208 Ruddy Duck Drive in College Station at 12 pm. All family and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life reception to share your stories and memories.
