Wilber Charles Pool Obituary

Mr. Wilber Charles “Chuck” Pool, 83, of Shiro, Texas passed away from his battle with metastatic prostate cancer on October 21, 2024. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Anderson Baptist Church in Anderson, Texas.  Interment to immediately follow at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Anderson, Texas.

Chuck was born in Dallas, Texas on March 23, 1941 to Allen Pool Sr. & Frances Mildred Elleven. When he was 9 years old, the family lived in Chicago, Illinois then later moved to California. In 1960, Chuck joined the Navy as a Seaman Recruit and within a year was promoted to Airman Apprentice. He wanted to go into the electronics division, as he had the talent and skill, but it was determined that he was color-blind so he would not be able to pursue electronics. In 1967 while in Pasadena, California, he met his true love and wife of 57 years, Marlene Mae (Portesi) Pool. Once he became a dad, he found the love of bowling & softball, sharing this passion with his wife & children as they joined leagues together.  Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family, taking them to the park to play tennis, piling everyone into the car to go to the drive-in theater, or just sitting around the table (or in a circle on the floor) playing board games (especially monopoly). Moving to Houston, Texas in the early 1970’s, Chuck opened a restaurant (Carpenter’s Café Local 213) which he had for many years. After closing the restaurant he took on a few more cook positions, even opened a bar-b-que restaurant for a short time, then moved on to pursue a more fulfilling interest, he began working in a nursing home in Humble, Texas where he was able to share camaraderie & companionship with the residents. Later in life he took on the hobby of painting landscapes. Although he was Baptist, when he retired and relocated to Shiro, Texas, Chuck began helping at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Anderson, Texas where his wife (also retired) was a parishioner & worked as the church secretary. Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting Chuck quickly realized his comedic wit.  Though he was very quiet and for the most part kept to himself, his greatest joy was playing his massive record collection while surrounded by family.
