Bryan, Texas – Walter Robert Nunn, 86, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at his home in Bryan. Born on April 7, 1939, in Groveton, Texas, Walter was the son of Walter and Tommie Ruth (Cameron) Nunn. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Walter was a man of simple pleasures and direct honest speech. One of the greatest joys of his life was his deep love for horses and mules. Growing up in rural East Texas, Walter developed a bond with animals that lasted throughout his life. He enjoyed every moment spent with his horses, donkeys and mules, always finding comfort and peace in their company. Whether it was the thrill of competition while roping or the completion of a winning reining pattern when riding a mule against horses, Walter’s proficiency with these animals was a part of his soul.

A true cowboy at heart, Walter was especially fond of roping, a skill he honed over the years not just for necessity, but for the sheer enjoyment it brought him. Roping was not just a sport to him; it was a reflection of the life he loved—one that connected him to nature, tradition, and the timeless rhythm of the cowboy way.

In his later years, Walter also enjoyed growing various fig tree varieties. But, his love for equine and roping still remained the most cherished part of his life. He was willing to share his riding knowledge and skills with his grandsons, Wyatt and Virgil, as well as others desiring to learn horsemanship and roping competence. This was especially true when he could use their riding lesson to help train his animals at the same time.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Tommie Nunn. He leaves behind his beloved son, Bryant Nunn, and daughter-in-law, Sandra; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Virgil Nunn; his longtime friend and traveling companion, Kathryn Bradley; as well as numerous other family members and friends who will miss him deeply. His legacy of love for donkeys and mules, roping, and the simple pleasures of life will live on in the hearts of those who knew him best.
