Sonja “Kay” Baskett, 87, of Flynn, Texas, peacefully entered the arms of the Lord on Monday, May 18, 2026. A visitation will be held Friday, May 22, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Flynn. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery.

Kay was born on September 6, 1938, in Lott, Texas, to Thomas William Fleming, Sr. and Pauline Etta (Strader) Fleming. She was a kind and caring soul who found great joy in serving others and giving back to her community. For more than 40 years, Kay devoted herself to the Girl Scouts of America, serving in numerous roles, including troop leader and cookie sales chair. She was an enthusiastic and skilled bowler, maintaining an impressive average of 160–170 in league play, and was also an expert Canasta player. Kay had a deep love for gardening and was honored with Emeritus status through the Leon County Master Gardeners. Above all else, Kay cherished her family, treasuring every moment spent with loved ones and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 53 years, Walter Roy Baskett, Jr.; and her two brothers, Thomas William Fleming, Jr. and Andrew Fleming.

Kay leaves behind a legacy of love and memories to be cherished by her family, including her son, Walter R. Baskett III and his wife, Diana; her daughter, Paula Sony and her husband, Donald; her sisters, Beverly Robinson and Loralene Ratcliff; her six grandchildren, Wayne, Christina, Kayla, Cole, Wally, and Sara; and eleven great-grandchildren, Brenna, Bristol, Zachary, Lexi, Elijah, Isaac, Jacob, Samuel, Lincoln, Alice, and Amillia. She is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Kay will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
