Ruth "Pat" Tompkins Obituary

To know Pat was to know kindness, strength, and unconditional love.

Ruth Patricia McDonald Mann Tompkins, lovingly known as Patsy Ruth, entered eternal rest on September 19, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on August 8, 1935, in Houston, Texas, where she grew up, married, and raised her family.

Family was always at the center of Patsy’s life. From a young age, all she ever wanted was to be a mother, and she poured her heart into that calling. She was not only a devoted mother to her own children but also to three stepchildren, an adopted daughter, and countless others over the years who lovingly called her “Mom.”

Patsy’s life journey was full of hard work, service, and love. After remarrying, she and her husband ran a café in downtown Houston. Later, she made her home in Carthage, Texas, where she worked for the Farm Bureau and raised chickens for Tyson. Beyond her work, she was deeply involved in her community and church. She served as president of the Lions Club, was a dedicated Girl Scout leader, and was a proud 50+ year member of the Eastern Star, among many other acts of service.

She was preceded in death by her daughters Janie Lee Mann and Martha Gaye Mann; her parents, Dealvo Jackson McDonald and Mary Omega Bush McDonald; her sister, Tallie Louise Hannsz and brothers, Jackson McDonald and Thomas “Corky” McDonald, and two grandchildren, Ricky (JR) Reider and Lawren Heidbreder.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Claudia Heidbreder & Larry, Kathy Dehmer & Kerry, Mary K. White & John Pat, Kenneth Mann Jr., and Terry Mann & Candice; as well as Tamara Taylor, Dana Tompkins, Tracey Moreno, and April Tompkins. She was also blessed with 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Patsy will be remembered for her love of God, strong faith, unwavering love for her family, and her servant’s heart.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 p.m. at Restoration Church
