Roy Donald Houghton Obituary

Roy Donald Houghton “Don”, 79, of Bryan, passed away February 6, 2026.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11AM Saturday, February 14, at Burleson County Cowboy Church. Lay Pastor Bill Kristoff will officiate.

Born on August 7, 1946, in Rotan, Texas, he was the son of Earl Junior Houghton and Geneva Georgia May Houghton. Don was a hard-working man of God, dedicating much of his life to the oil field. In his youth, he served in the US Army, achieving the rank of Specialist 4th Class. He sang in church growing up, alongside playing softball with the church group. He ended up here in his later years, singing at the Burleson County Cowboy Church. His faith guided his life and was evident in everything he did.

He was also one of the founders of the Brazos Valley Poultry Club. Don had a deep love for fishing, often finding peace and calm in the quiet moments by the water. Whether casting a line at sunrise or sitting patiently along the shore, fishing gave him time to reflect, rest, and enjoy God’s creation. It was more than a pastime—it was a source of comfort and contentment. He also found joy at home, spending time in his yard feeding hummingbirds, doves, cardinals, and blue jays, taking delight in the simple beauty of nature around him.

Above all, Don cherished his family. His love for them was steady, selfless, and unwavering. He treasured every moment spent together, never taking time for granted. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he loved deeply and followed with immense pride. Family meant everything to him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Geneva.

Don leaves behind to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 57 years, Dana Sue Houghton; a son, Donald Mitchell Houghton and wife, Rhonda; a daughter, Dana “Missy” Houghton Engelman and husband, Jason; two brothers, Jearl Houghton and wife, Polly, and Herschel Houghton and wife, Kim; Four grandchildren, Magen Hibbler, Hayley Brinkman, Tyler Houghton and Taylor Houghton; 11 precious great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
