Robert Lloyd Acree, 74, of Somerville, TX, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, surrounded by family.

Born on January 9, 1952 in Mercedes, TX, Robert lived a life marked by a determination to be close to nature. He was known by those closest to him as someone who worked hard to provide for his family and who was content to lead a simple, rural life.

He was a cactus enthusiast and gardener and enjoyed creating carvings from wood. He loved listening to live local music and dancing, reading to learn, and was often known as the life of the party with his free-spirited approach to life. He led many wild adventures over the years, from hopping on a freight train from TX to CA to live on a yoga ashram, to building a glass bottle dwelling on the side of a mountain. There was never a dull moment in his presence.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; children, Robert and Shelly; stepson John; and grandchildren, Levon and Ryan. He is also survived by his siblings, Cathy, Paula, and Sylvia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Betty Jean.

In accordance with his wishes, Robert will be cremated. A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy in Robert’s name.

The family would like to thank St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital and Enhabit Hospice for their compassion and care during his final days.

He will be remembered as an artisan in the craft of masonry, building lasting infrastructure for over 52 years for his community and weaving creativity into his personal projects.
