Raymond C. Ross Obituary
Raymond Charles Ross, 76, was called home with his Lord & Savior Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Legacy Nursing & Rehabilitation of Bryan. He passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer in the hands of his loving wife of 55 years strong, surrounded by his phenomenal medical staff. Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Raymond was born in Mobile, Alabama on September 14,1948 to Raymond Harold & Dorothy W. (Nichols) Ross. Ray spent most of his weekends deep sea fishing with his parents and two younger brothers, Gary & Chris. The ocean was by far their greatest family treasure, growing up living on the Gulf of Mexico coast and having their own boat readily available at any time. Both went “hand-in-hand” in the Ross family! Ray spent his next nine years in Wayne City, IL while his father farmed and ran a dairy before relocating back to Mobile to be closer to family. Ray graduated from Baker High School in 1966. He attended Mobile College and enlisted in the Air Force the following year. He worked in the telecommunications industry, earning his E5 (Staff Sergeant) in less than 4 years after completing his tour to the Philippines during the Vietnam War.
Just prior to his tour in the Philippines, Ray married the love of his life, Pamala Jane Jackson December 20, 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter and purpose. They thoroughly enjoyed country dancing together. One could also find them two-stepping around the living room to George Strait or listening to endless hours of Kenny G’s greatest hits. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Jennifer Lynn and Eric James. From their children’s T-Ball, baseball, softball, weekend barrel races, watching Jennifer play her trumpet in the marching band @ Southwest Texas (Texas State), to Eric’s academic and athletic activities while attending Angelo State, Ray and Pam were devoted parents. The Ross parents were known to often host a slew of their children’s friends at football games and dinner afterwards, with Daddy Ray picking up the bill every time and never complaining. The Ross family enjoyed camping adventures on Sand Island, Boy Scout camping in the snow, canoe trips on the river, with the majority of their family time spent at the beach on Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores. Ray loved capturing precious moments through his photography. He spent many weekends photographing rodeos, barrel races and roping activities. Sadly, weddings quickly fell to the wayside. Despite his many accomplishments, one of Ray’s highlights in life was when his only living grandchild, Hunter James, achieved his Eagle Scout honor. Ray's most recent cherished moments were spent with Hunter and son-in-law, Michael working on his badges. Another favorite was capturing Jennifer’s college “Rabies” project @ Mary Roberts Elementary on film for the presentation at a time technology was limited. Raymond truly adored his family! With just over four months shy of his 56th wedding anniversary to the Ross family matriarch, Ray’s face continued to light up the room every time his loving and caring wife walked through the door to be by his side. They had quite the love story and were fabulous role models to their children.
Ray was a hard worker in order to provide for his family to the best of his abilities. He began his career with Alcoa before making IBM his permanent working family before retiring in 2016. He planned to spend quality time wood-working and taking numerous couples road trips to Yellowstone, Pennsylvania and Colorado site seeing and enjoying God’s beautiful country. Ray spent his life devoted to God. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Bryan, where he lived out his faith with quiet strength and humble devotion.
Ray will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. Ray was preceded in death by his loving parents and beautiful granddaughter, Emma Grace.
Those left to honor Ray’s memory are his wife Pam of the home, two beloved children Jennifer Lynn (husband Michael), Eric James (wife Kiersten), his only living grandchild, Hunter James and many family members and a host of friends.
A celebration of Raymond Ross’ life will be held Saturday, August 16th @ 11:00am, with a meal following at noon at the First Baptist Church Bryan (3100 Cambridge in Bryan, TX).
