Ramon Lopez Turrubiartez Obituary

Ramon Lopez Turrubiartez, 80, of Freeport, passed away December 17, 2025. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2 from 10am to 1pm with a Rosary starting at 12pm in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home.  A Funeral Service is set for 2pm Friday, January 2, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.

Born on July 3, 1945, in Slaton, Texas, he was the son of Pilar V. Turrubiartez and Agustina Lopez. Ramon was a hard-working family man who truly valued time spent with the people he loved. He enjoyed capturing special moments through photography and took pride in preserving memories that would last a lifetime. In his spare time, he found peace in fishing and excitement in watching the Dallas Cowboys and boxing matches. Traveling allowed him to experience new places and cultures, something he always appreciated. Music was one of his greatest passions, and as a former DJ, he had a deep love for all kinds of music and enjoyed sharing that joy with others. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pilar and Agustina; his loving wife, Celia Turrubiartez; and five sisters, Amada Sotelo, Esther Ramirez, Antonia Maldonado, Martha Gaona, and Elisia Balli.

Ramon leaves behind to cherish his memories a son, Victor Garcia; daughters, Sally Chancey and Wanda Velasquez Turrubiartez; a brother, Pedro Turrubiartez and wife, Elsie; three sisters, Maria Gonzales and husband, Manuel, Eulalia Lucero and husband, Mike, and Ernestina Sanchez and husband Hilario; 7 grandchildren; 17 beautiful great-grandchildren; and 9 precious great-great-grandbabies.
