Rafael Dario Pena

Rafael Dario Peña, Sr, 82, of Bryan, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on February 27, 2023. Rafael was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico on December 19, 1940. He became a citizen of the United States in 1951. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1968. He was proud of his achievements as he was told many times he would never graduate school because English was his second language. He was determined to be an example for his children because education was important to him. Rafael was married to Dora Fava Peña on June 27, 1968; they were married for 50 years.
Rafael worked at Food Town in downtown Bryan for 40 years. He was known to the community as Food Town Ralph. He then went to HEB for 20 years. He enjoyed talking to everyone who crossed his path. He never met a stranger. The first words he’d say to everyone was “Hello, my friend.” Rafael was also a very creative person. He would turn anything he’d find into a new treasure. He certainly made the quote, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” true. He was also actively involved in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was proud of his new family at Church.
Rafael is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Victoria Peña and Santos De Leon, two brothers and sister-in-laws, Joe and Santa Peña of Eagle Pass, TX and Corando and Barbara Peña of Bryan, Texas, his honorary daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Anthony Reed. Rafael is survived by 12 grandchildren and over 33 great-grandchildren.
Rafael is preceded in death by his wife, Dora Fava Peña, son Rafael Dario Peña, Jr and his parents Raymundo and Rebeca (Rosales) Peña.
