Born on May 27, 1951, in Navasota, he was the beloved son of Obie Harrison Sr. and Dorebia Lewis, and a proud lifelong Texan whose roots ran deep in the community he cherished.
Obie lived a life marked by courage, service, and unwavering devotion. As a young man, he won a high school state championship in track and later went on to attend Prairie View A&M University. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam veteran. His time in the Marines shaped him into the steady, disciplined, and fiercely loyal man his family and friends came to rely on. He carried that Marine spirit with him throughout his life strength in hardship, humility in service, and honor in all things.
Anyone who knew Obie knew this too: he always spoke his mind, whether you agreed with him or not. His honesty was part of his charm, part of his strength, and part of what made him unforgettable.
After retiring from more than 30 years in construction, he lived a full life grounded in the things he loved. Obie had a passion for hunting, fishing, BBQing, gardening, and giving back to the community through active studies with the youth. He was an active member of the Coon Hunters Association, the Marine Corps League, and various veterans organizations that reflected his loyalty, service, and love for camaraderie.
Obie is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Ramona, and his former wife, Dorothy. He leaves behind five children; Shelita, Nicole, Debra, Obie Jr., and Harion Sr., each carrying a piece of his strength, humor, and wisdom, siblings; Charles, Chris, Joanne, Yvette, Sabrina, and Ramona Kay, who will forever cherish his memory and the bond they shared. His legacy continues through a Marine Corps–strong troop of grandchildren and great‑grandchildren, all of whom adored him and will carry his stories, lessons, and love forward.
Though he has left this world, the impact of his life his service, his resilience, his honesty, and the countless lives he touched will endure for generations. Once a Marine, always a Marine
Special Tributes Obie’s favorite Bible verse was Psalm 34:7–11. This passage reflects the strength, protection, and faith he carried throughout his life. It was a source of comfort to him, and it now stands as a reminder of the peace he has entered and the guidance he leaves behind for those who loved him.
Obie also cherished the song “I’m on the Battlefield for My Lord.” Its message of devotion, perseverance, and steadfast service spoke deeply to who he was a man committed to his faith, his family, and his duty. The spirit of that song reflects the way he lived his life: with purpose, courage, and unwavering dedication.
