Milton Cunningham, a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated civil servant, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the age of 65. A Memorial Service is set for 12PM Saturday, December 6, in New Life Church of God.
Milton was born on August 19, 1960, to the late Samuel and Ruthie Cunningham. He was raised in a large, loving family and was baptized at an early age at Liberty Baptist Church by Rev. Jackson. He was a proud graduate of Burton High School, Class of 1978. Milton was a committed, hard-working man who dedicated his career to service and industry. He spent 20 years with Steadley’s Steel Plant from 1978 to 1998, and later transitioned to a career in public service, retiring in 2023 from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 25 years of honorable service. In 1996, Milton married the love of his life, TaShonda Johnson, and their bond remained strong until his passing. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Arianna and Tristan. Milton had a deep love for sports, especially his Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas Longhorns football teams. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. Milton was a man who cherished fellowship; he was famous among his family and friends for his skill at BBQ, and he loved a competitive game of dominoes.
Milton is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ruthie Cunningham, and his siblings, Elmo, Samuel Jr., Norman, Joyce, Marion, and Jimmy Dorsey. He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, TaShonda Cunningham; his daughter, Arianna Cunningham Clark (William); and his son, Tristan Cunningham. He is also survived by his brothers, André Cunningham (Pam) and David Cunningham Sr. (Rebecca), and Collin Brown, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.
