Obituary

Marilyn Elaine (Palmer) Gochanour, 82, of Bedias, TX passed away Friday, March 24, 2023. Funeral Services are set for 11AM, Saturday, April 1 in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10AM until service time on Saturday, April 1, also at Trevino-Smith.
Born October 27, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York she was the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Dyky) Palmer. Growing up in New York she was teenage model. Marilyn was the mother of eight children. She loved to work in her yard, flower beds and garden. Who would have ever thought that a young woman from Brooklyn, NY would move to Illinois and become a homestead farmer of impressive scale. People would come from miles and miles around to purchase vegetables from her farm stand every year. Her Thanksgiving dinner table always had a full menu of homemade dishes from her garden along with fresh baked goods. She enjoyed decorating her home for every holiday to make it a special place for her family. She was the original DIY - jack of all trades pioneer.  Marilyn was an advocate for children. She was a longtime member of the Foster Care Program in Illinois. She cared for over 75 children while participating in the program. She mentored many new foster parents during this time. Marilyn loved to crotchet and knit and was an avid reader. She was an animal lover of all species who opened heart and home for any animal in need. She has several lifelong friends who she kept in touch with on a weekly basis. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mary; a brother, Thomas Palmer; and a sister, Arlene Grisanzio.
Marilyn leaves behind to cherish her memories, Dannette M. Miller and husband Timothy, Michael P. Gochanour and wife Wendy, Lorraine L. Palmer, Pamela L. Towns and husband Stephen, Tina M. Gochanour, Nicole S. Gochanour, Thomas M. Gochanour, and Tim A. Gochanour; as well as ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
