Mamie Lee (Shepherd) Burdick Obituary

Mamie Lee Burdick (Shepherd) was born in 1925 in Post, Texas to Annie Mae and Otis Granville Shepherd. She was the eldest of six siblings. She was raised on a farm and started driving at 13 years old to help her father on the farm. She spent many years hoeing cotton fields and helping with other chores on the farm.

She graduated from Post High School in 1943. She was working at a soda fountain at the local drug store where she met the love of her life, Robert (Loring) Burdick, an oilfield driller from Colorado. They married in 1946. Loring’s job took them all over the world. They lived in Post, Texas, Meaker, Colorado, Hobbs, new Mexico, Ventura, California, Tokyo, Japan, Singapore, Houston, and Lubbock, Texas. They retried to College Station, Texas in 1990. Mamie and Loring were married for 72 years. They had 5 children and Mamie says that raising her kids was her greatest joy. She and the kids spent many summers on the family farm outside of Post, while Loring was overseas working 28 day shifts. The happiest times were when the family was all together. She loved traveling, crocheting, fishing, and her family very much, especially her little dog, Charlie.
