Kazuko "Kay" Mortashed Obituary

Kazuko T. “Kay” Mortashed, 80, passed away on October 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. From a family with 7 children, Kay was born on February 6, 1945, in Okinawa, to parents Koei and Yone Tobaru.

Kay met Jeffery Mortashed while he was stationed in Okinawa, and were married there. After Jeff’s stint in the Marine Corps, they settled in the United States in 1978. Kay enjoyed cooking, particularly her fried rice and noodles, which her family and friends often requested. She could also be found sewing, gardening, and doing jigsaw puzzles. She also liked to ride trains through the mountains and motorcycles through town. But her greatest love, her greatest enjoyment, was her family. She was always there to love and support them in any situation.

Kay is survived by her husband of 54 years, Jeffery Mortashed, Sr.; by sons, Jeffrey Jr. and his wife Sue Ellen of Uvalde, TX; James Mortashed of Bryan, TX; Joseph Mortashed and his wife, Shelley, of Bryan, TX; and Justin Mortashed and his wife, Jessica, of Bryan, TX. Also by daughters Kazumi Stickel and her husband Moses of Somerville, TX; Diane Ray and her husband Craig of Bryan, TX; and daughter Angela Mortashed of Bryan, TX. Kay also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Kay's honor on Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Zion Methodist Church in lola, TX, at 1:00 PM.
