Joe Upton Smith, 86, of Bryan, Texas passed away

July 7, 2021. Funeral services are set for 10AM Monday, July 12 in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9AM until service time at Trevino-Smith.

Born September 7, 1934 in Weleetka, OK, he was the son of Jesse Smith and Oma Morgan. He was a printer by trade and worked as a pressman for Avalanche Journal in Lubbock, TX for many years. In 1967 he moved his wife and three children to Bryan to open The Bryan Printing Company in downtown Bryan. After retirement, he became an avid gardener, selling award winning tomatoes and watermelons, and later fresh eggs from his free range chickens at the Farmer’s Market in Bryan every Saturday morning. Joe loved horses and delivered newspapers as a child on horseback. He passed on that passion to his children. Each child had their own horse and weekends were filled with horse shows, trail rides, rodeos, 4-H and FFA.

His parents and 12 siblings precede him in death.

Joe leaves behind to cherish his memories, his three children Verilyn Genta of Ogden, Utah, Trini Smith of Bryan, Texas, Roger Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah; the mother of his children Billie Jean Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, and his beloved cat, Chloe.

The family would like to thank Lynn, Denae, Rebecca, Brenda, Nate, Laura, Serena, Julie, Kaitlin, Jack, Ken, and Linda the caregivers who took care of him for the past year.
