Jefferson David Richie Obituary

Jefferson David Richie, known affectionately as Jeff, passed away on August 1, 2024, at the age of 70 in Somerville, Texas. Born on July 14, 1954, in Camden, New Jersey, Jeff grew into a man of deep faith and robust spirit.

Jeff's early life was marked by his passion for sports, excelling in basketball and baseball during his high school years at Mount Carmel. This enthusiasm for sports was not just a pastime but a channel through which he connected with his community and family, often recounting tales of games to inspire the younger generations. He carried this legacy forward by coaching his children, particularly cherishing the moments spent shooting hoops with his daughter, Leslie, and coaching his son, David's teams.

Professionally, Jeff began his career as a welder, then advanced to a pipe fitter, and ultimately retired as a Senior Pipe Designer, taking great pride in his work and the contributions he made over the years. His work ethic was paralleled by his commitment to his country, serving two years active duty and six years in the reserves with the Army, a testament to his dedication and resilience.

Jeff married his beloved wife, Karen, and together they embraced a simpler life in Somerville, Texas, where he enjoyed his hobbies that ranged from watching sports and engaging in political debates to attending rodeos to watch his granddaughter perform. He was also a devout participant in men's bible study groups and took great pleasure in tending to his cattle and all of his furry friends.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Richie; his children, Leslie Wilcox (Matthew), David Richie (Angela), and their children, Thomas and Christian; his stepdaughters, Brandi Michael and Stacie Williams (Jerry), and their children, Maggie, Jessica, Lilly, and Zack. He also leaves behind his siblings, George (Janis), Robert (Mary), Karen, Heliana (Russell), Michelle (Mike), and Joe (Diana). Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, R.J. and Lura Richie, his brother Rick Richie, and beloved in-laws.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at the First Baptist Church of Somerville, 255 Ninth Street, Somerville, TX, on August 10th, 2024, at 10 a.m., followed by a luncheon. Jeff's life was a testament to his strong character and the profound impact he had on those around him. His legacy of faith, family, and community will continue to live on through his loved ones.
