Janie Degelia
September 21, 1921 – August 28, 2022
Janie (Ricca) Degelia, 100, of Bryan, Texas, was welcomed into the arms of her Savior on August 28, 2022. Funeral Services are set for 11 AM Friday, September 2, at St. Anthony’s Church, Bryan, Texas with Father Rakshaganathan Selvarj officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation and rosary will be held at the church from 10 AM until service time, also on Friday, September 2nd.
Born September 21, 1921, in Caldwell, Texas she was the daughter of Joe Ricca and Mary (Scardino) Ricca. Janie attended Caldwell schools and after her family moved to Bryan; she worked in her parent’s small store for several years. Later in life, she was employed for 18 years at the International Shoe Co. in Bryan and then worked part-time for Whitten Hatters, also in Bryan. In addition, she volunteered many hours with the St. Vincent DePaul resale shop in downtown Bryan.
Janie was an excellent cook, seamstress, and avid gardener. The family especially treasured her Italian fig cookies (cucciddati) and Italian pizza (facci di vecchia).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Mary, her husband of 67 years, Frank Degelia Jr., and four brothers and four sisters. Janie leaves behind to treasure her memories her only daughter, Frances DeGelia, one brother, Johnnie Ricca, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many beloved friends.
