James MacFarlane Obituary
James “Jimmy“ Thomas MacFarlane died 2/10/2023 at the age of 66. He is preceded
in death by his wife, Brenda MacFarlane (2021) and sister Laurie (2013). Jimmy is survived
by his mother (Fran), brother (Danny), and sister (Mary). Jimmy is also survived by two sons
and six grandchildren: his son Russell with his wife Becky and their children Ethan, Rowan,
and Morgan; and his son Jeffrey with his wife Samantha and their children Ryker, Rayleigh,
and Ronan. Jimmy was born November 12, 1956 in Miami, Florida. He graduated from
Spring Branch High School in Houston, TX in 1974. He married Brenda, his wife of 43 years,
on June 17, 1978.
Jimmy worked in many manual labor trades, but eventually made his name in Hardwood
Flooring. During his time doing hardwood floors he worked for others and also owned his
own business. His business was successful in Houston, TX, and also in Los Alamos, NM.
He also helped many family and friends with their floors. After quitting the business, Jimmy
started working at Wal-Mart until the death of his wife.
Jimmy loved camping, golf (his second job), and going on trips. He was known for his humor
and playful personality. He had several catch-phrases that many remember, including: Big
Time!, I tell you what, huh?, and who?. Those who camped with Jimmy know him for his love
of cooking and sitting around a campfire. While he wasn’t working or camping, he could be
found at a golf course “hitting balls.”
While his wife was still alive, they went on many great trips and had wonderful visits with his
sisters and brother in-laws (Patsy, David, and Barbara). He spent months on the road with
his camping trailer after his wife’s death. During his travels, he was diagnosed with Stage 4
pancreatic cancer. He understood this was a losing battle but sought treatment to spend time
with family and prepare for his death.
Jimmy was a devout Jehovah’s Witness and helped others understand his faith and hope in
the resurrection. Though he is known as Jimmy, those closest to him knew him best as a
deep-spoken “Hey” due to his hearing difficulty. He was a loving husband, a fun grandpa,
good trip buddy, and a great friend. He will be greatly missed by the many who knew and
loved him.
