James Alan Acosta, 61, of Bryan, Texas, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 with his beloved family by his side. A Visitation is set for 5PM – 8PM Tuesday, March 24, with a Service set to begin at 6PM in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home. Pastor Jacob Biswell will officiate.
Born on June 6, 1964 in Bryan, Texas, he was the son of Gerardo Roy Acosta and Margaret Walton. James loved being outdoors. He enjoyed driving his tractor and buying lottery tickets. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family at barbecues, where he could relax, laugh, and be surrounded by the people who mattered most to him.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Gerardo and Margaret; a brother, Roy Michael Acosta; a sister, Carolyn Gutierrez; and two nephews, Steven Gutierrez and Justin Medina.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 43 years, Katherine Acosta, two sons; James Alan Acosta Jr. and Eric Acosta and his partner, Mariah; a daughter, Elizabeth Acosta-Lopez and husband, Richard Lopez; sister, Tammy Medina and husband, Rodrigo, four grandchildren; Gabriel Acosta, Adrian Acosta, Dillon Acosta, Richard Lopez Jr., and his best friend, Raymond Garcia. As well as numerous other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
