Ivan R. Short Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Ivan R. Short announce his passing on the morning of May 04, 2024, after fighting a good fight against cancer and COPD.


Ivan was born and raised in Wilton, WI on January 16, 1941, to Dennis and Edith (Arndt) Short, and was the youngest of 5 children. Ivan joined the U.S. Army in April of 1958 till October 1958, then again from January 1959 to October 1962. During this enlistment, he met and married the love of his life, Julika Zielinsli, while stationed in Berlin, Germany. Ivan and Julika were married on December 29, 1961. He separated from the Army while stationed in Berlin. Upon his separation, they moved back to WI. He later joined the Army Reserves in 1985, during which time he was called to active duty to serve in Desert Shield/Desert Storm.


Ivan retired from the reserves and his mechanics job at Fort McCoy in January 16, 2001. Ivan held down many job titles: farmer, milk delivery man, mechanic, Army Reservist, but most importantly dad to their five children. Cindy Short of Wilton, WI, Bettina Short of Crockett, TX, Douglas (Trisha) Short of Ontario, WI, Melissa (David) Rudd of Aberdeen, NC and Jennifer Bounds, of College Station, TX, along with the title of grandpa/grampee/Opa to their 14 grandchildren, and great grandpa/Opie to their 33 great-grandchildren.


Ivan and Julika moved to warmer weather in Marshall, TX winter of 2003, where they resided until the passing of his love in 2019. In January 2021 he moved to College Station to be closer to Jennifer.


Ivan is preceded by his wife, Julika Short, father, Dennis Short; mother, Edith Sullivan; brother Erv Short; Sisters Margaret (Short) Ellis and Eileen (Short -Owens)  Larkee, great granddaughter, Adalyn Millsap.


He is survived by his children, grand and great-grandchildren, brother, William (Betty) Short, nieces, nephews, and other family. The interment will be held at the Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw, WI on June 24, 2024, at 1300.  A celebration of life will be held on June 22, 2024, with time and location to be announced.
