Obituary

Gerald Ray McCurry Jr., “Jerry”, 61 years of age.

Jerry, as he was lovingly known, was born on December 29,1961 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He gained his Heavenly wings on March 22, 2023 in Hempstead, Texas surrounded by family.

Jerry is survived by his children: Jason McCurry, Candace Rae McCurry, and Austin McCurry. He also leaves behind three precious Granddaughters: Brooklyn McCurry, Morgan Riffe, and Raelynn McCurry.  Parents: Pauline & Milton Rhuems, Gerald & Dot McCurry. Siblings and their spouses: Suzie and Kirk Boyd, Mike and Laurie McCurry, Tammy and Larry Shuck, Wendy and Donald Lehman, Bobby and Irene Rhuems, Melody and Randy Marze, Rusty and Pam Rhuems, Trey Davies, B.J. and Kohle Davies, and Eric Davies, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

He is preceded in death by siblings Patrick McCurry and Kathy Hatfield.

Jerry lived a life full of adventure.  No matter what he did, he was “all in.”  He grew up in Cypress, Texas where he first found his love for all things fast. He loved horses, cars, motorcycles, and life itself. He overhauled his first motorcycle when he was only 10 years old and became a lifelong auto mechanic. Jerry never met a stranger and always had a corny joke or story to tell.

Jerry moved to Madisonville,Texas to attend The House of Hope. It was there that he found The Lord and a community that both welcomed and embraced him. He graduated from The House of Hope on July 10, 2015, and continued to attend Bible study there. He loved his community, his church, and the friendships he made. For that, we are forever grateful.

On December 29, 2022, his 61st birthday, he was given the news that he had leukemia. He fought a valiant battle, but ultimately he was called home. During this time, Jerry never complained, but continued to proclaim how blessed he was to have family and friends that love him so much.

He will be greatly missed, but we will see him again!

A memorial service will be held at Madisonville Christian Fellowship on Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 A.M. in Madisonville, Texas.

Honorary pallbearers:

Ray Moss, Brad Brock, Todd Minnis, Clint Wakefield, Richard Gilbreath, and Justin Crowe.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s honor to The House of Hope in Madisonville, Texas.
