Georgia Evelyn Armour
March 1, 1932 – July 13, 2023
Georgia Evelyn Armour, aged 91, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023.
Georgia was born on March 1st, 1932 in Many, Louisiana as the daughter of Harold and Nettie Mae Maxey and was later the older sister to George Maxey. She enjoyed people and her social life, being incredibly close to both her family and friends. Along with conversation, she was renowned for her many delicious meals as well as her and Swepson’s bountiful garden. Georgia’s husband, Swepson Freeman, and their relationship together were the most important focuses of her life.
Together almost since birth, Swepson Armour and Georgia Maxey grew up with one another. This closeness bred fondness, they were often inseparable and later referred to as childhood sweethearts.
Georgia and Swepson began dating as early as Junior High and later married in 1950. Their life together took off quickly, as Swepson had been a part of the United States Air Force for almost two years before their marriage and was constantly on the move between bases. This caused the two to bring their happiness with them to each new home. After Swepson's career with the Air Force ended, they set down roots and found a home in Baton Rouge through Swepson's work with Eastern Airlines. Georgia, in the meantime, worked alongside Swep to raise their two daughters Judy Armour and Kathy Adams, and later their son Swepson “David” Armour. Later, Swepson transferred with the airline to Charlotte, North Carolina, and then back down to Houston. This consistent moving only strengthened their love for each other. Around this time, Georgia began working with Sears as an executive secretary in one of their warehouses until her eventual retirement.
After years of loving marriage and dedicated work, Georgia and Swepson retired together to Corrigan, TX where much of their life took on a harmonious routine. Bringing that harmony with them, the two moved to Brenham, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Georgia was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Brenham’s choir, spreading her love for others through both works and song. She later found receptionist duties with and continued her love of helping others at Champion Fellowship Church in Brenham.
Georgia leaves behind cherished memories with her loving husband of 72 years, Swepson Freeman Armour; their one son, Swepson “David” Armour; two daughters, Judy Armour Carney, and Kathy Adams; sister-in-law, Carolyn Maxey; three grandchildren, Chantel Wilson, Marshall Adams, and Aspen Colson; and, finally, five great-grandchildren, Alex Wilson, Maddie Wilson, Creed Adams, Caleb Adams, and baby Colson, due in November.
The family would like to thank Carriage Inn for their loving care and for the amazing support and loving hospice care by Emily with Encompass.
