A Funeral Mass and Rosary to be held at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Hempstead, to be determined. Born July 26, 1938, in Galveston, TX. He was the son of James Tucker and Frances Lucy (Monshausen) Plummer. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Plummer, Jr. and a sister, Norma Farrington Hunt.
Doug leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Janie Sue (Danchak) Plummer. Three daughters: Kari Sue and husband Thomas Walsh, Vicki Jane Plummer, and Judy Anne and husband Randall Hartman. One sister Joyce Hugman, sister-in-law Betty Jo Pursley; and six grandchildren: Erin Osman (David), Eileen Ferguson (Blake), Shauna Harvey (Zack), Michael Collins (Lauren), Eric Hartman (Lindsay) and Audrey Hartman (Kate), eleven great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Doug began working in the printing business beginning with the Galveston Daily News. When the family moved to Houston, he worked for the Houston Chronicle and Gulf Printing Co. which became Southwestern Bell Printing. He traveled the US and Europe purchasing printing presses for SW Bell. Doug ended his career as the Director of Student Publications at the University of Texas Austin.
Doug loved all sports; hunting, fishing, camping, coaching little league baseball and especially water sports; teaching his three daughters and his grandchildren to water ski. He was happy at the beach or in his boat on a lake. He also enjoyed old cars and working on his 1956 Chevrolet. He could repair anything and was always lending a helping hand. He mostly enjoyed spending time with his beloved family.
Doug was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 12672, and a Fourth Degree Knight. He enjoyed working with his brother knights at social events. They were all like family.
