Don Allen Hobdy, 85, resident of Huntsville, TX passed away peacefully on Monday, December 9, 2024 with his family by his side. A Graveside Service is set for 1pm Wednesday, December 18, 2024 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas. Per Don’s wishes, his service will be kept small and for immediate family.

Born March 31, 1939 in Leon Junction, Texas, he was the son of Chester Allen Hobdy and Maddie Lee Hancock. Don joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served his country for four years. After being discharged, Don’s passion for aviation turned into a lifelong career as a commercial pilot. His natural fascination of weather patterns went hand in hand with his meticulous nature.  Don was a proud man and had a very specific way of doing most everything. Don had an incredibly, dry sense of humor and was known for making people laugh at the most unexpected moments.  His soft heart for animals translated into him rescuing turtles, tarantulas, armadillos, etc. and giving them to his kids as pets.  When it came time for Science Fair – he was your man.  Don was a master mechanic and could fix anything. He was a lover of all genres of music, but bluegrass was his all-time favorite.  He had a deep appreciation for creativity, art, and beauty in nature.  Later in life, Don’s favorite hobby was rock collecting. Don loved rock tumbling, polishing, and turning his best finds into jewelry. He was also an avid knife and gun collector. 

Don is preceded in death by his parents, Chester Hobdy and Maddie Hancock Aven; and his younger siblings Charles Morris Hobdy and Linda Hobdy Stewart.

He leaves behind his three children, Miles Allen Hobdy, Craig Morris Hobdy, and Donna Hobdy Coussons; as well as, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Don will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
