Darlene Lopez Sims Obituary

Linda Darlene Lopez-Sims, 70, of College Station passed away on Monday, November 11, 2024. A Celebration of Life will begin at 3:30pm on Sunday, November 24, 2024 in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home.

Born November 25, 1953 in Bryan, Texas, she was the daughter of Billy and Juanita (Jones) Sims. Darlene was very active as a child, protected by her mom, dad and George the Boston Terrier. She was a good older sister to her brother Vance, and participated in 4H. In 8th grade, she was the fastest student in her middle school. Darlene went to Regionals in Track and Field for the 440 (prior to the 400). She was very social and had lots of friends. She loved Lockett Schools (no longer in existence), and was a majorette (twirler) in high school. Darlene graduated early and went to San Angelo State. She also completed the Barbizon School of Modeling in Dallas.
Later, Darlene worked as a phlebotomist in Vernon at the Regional Hospital and at St. Joseph in Bryan while attending Texas A&M University, and would go on to become a professional wallpaper hanger for Handy Homes in College Station. During this period, she married twice (to Frankie Cummins, then to Gregg Lopez) and welcomed her wonderful children into the world. She received a degree in English and became a substitute teacher for BISD in Bryan.
After retiring, Darlene moved to Quanah, TX where she opened the Quilt Box. It later burned down, and she moved to Childress, TX to take care of her mother. Darlene came back to the BCS area in 2009 where she lived out the remainder of her life. She was endlessly creative and crafty, and loved her kids, family, dogs, Aggies and the Cowboys.

Darlene is preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Juanita. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, a son, Jason Sims and his wife Tara; daughter, Erleigh Dawn McAndrews and her fiancé Geoffrey Williamson; one brother, Vance Sims and his wife Joy; nieces and nephews, Jonathan, Nora, and Jordan; and four beautiful grandchildren, Olivia, Jonah, Presleigh, and Paige. Darlene will be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
