Danny L. Barclay Obituary
Longtime Roseburg resident, Danny (Dan) L. Barclay, passed away on August 3, 2025, with the love of his life, Linda, by his side. Dan and Linda were married for 45 years, sharing a love for family, friends, and traveling across the USA, especially in the Pacific Northwest.
Dan grew up in Vale and Ontario, Oregon. After moving to Roseburg, throughout most of his adulthood, he returned to Eastern Oregon several times a year to visit friends, hunt and fish. His favorite hunting included mule deer, pheasant, and chukar. He loved to fish, especially for salmon, sturgeon, catfish and other panfish. He would fish in a mud puddle if he thought there was fish in it, but his favorite waters were the Umpqua, Snake, and Rogue Rivers and Winchester Bay.
Dan was outgoing and fun-loving, had the best sayings and jokes and was a natural at bringing stories to life and making people laugh. The last story he told was to his sister-in-law. He told her about bull riding when he was just a boy. “I enjoyed bull riding, but the doctor told me I had to quit,” he said. She asked why and Dan answered, “No guts.”
Dan worked at Roseburg Forrest Products at Plywood Plant #3 in Green for 33 years. Concurrent with his work at Roseburg Forrest Products, Dan and Linda spent six years co-managing the Roseburg Rod and Gun Club, which was ideal for Dan. He loved to shoot trap and was good at it, winning countless trophies of many kinds.
When Dan retired, he bought a secondhand store. Though he enjoyed buying and selling antiques and collectibles, it was the people who crossed his threshold and the stories they shared that gave him the most joy.
In 2021, Dan and Linda moved to Texas to be close to their Texas family.
Dan’s sideways smile, engaging stories and jokes, generous spirit and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a kind and compassionate man, always willing to lend a helping hand.
Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Linda; beloved daughter, Tauni Southworth; treasured grandson, Cody Southworth and his lovely wife, Holly and their children; cherished granddaughter, Lindsay Rose, her girlfriend, Jamie and her daughter; son, Danny Barclay, Jr.; best-buddy and sister-in-law, Diane Oswald and her esteemed husband, John; sweet niece Emily Oswald and her girlfriend, Aubrey Kotlarich; adored nephew, Scott Oswald and his precious wife and son, Hillary and Levi; and dearest friends Nita Wornom and Susan and Larry Reeves. Dan is preceded in death by his mother and father and two brothers.
