Billy S. Brown, 87, of Shelby, Texas passed away Friday, March 25, 2022. Funeral Services are set for 2PM Sunday, March 27 in the Chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home.
Chaplin Gary Balmain will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 27 from 1PM until service time. A Graveside Services and Burial will be Friday, April 1 at 2PM in the Pleasant Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Holt, Florida.
Born September 10, 1934, in Santa Rosa County, Florida, he was the son of Lee and Lena (Busby) Brown. Billy grew up in Bagdad, FL. near the bay. He loved to sing and play the guitar. Because of his sunny disposition, he always got along well with everyone, and as they say, he never met a stranger.
Billy started going out with his wife, Vonnie just 6 weeks before they were married on August 8, 1953. His greetings from Uncle Sam came soon after and he joined the Army in January of 1955. While in the Army he was a Marksman on the Rifle Team. Billy did a tour of duty in Germany early on in his career and later two tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from Service after nearly 21 years.
Billy was a great storyteller & pinochle player; he enjoyed playing cards with friends & family.
After Billy retired from the Army he worked for many years at Fort McClellan in Alabama running a Weapons shop until his final retirement.
After retirement Billy and Vonnie enjoyed traveling back to see all the places they had lived previously across the U.S., they also visited each of the 50 States.
He is preceded in death by, his parents, Lee and Lena; a son, Billy S. Brown Jr.; a grandson, Paul E. Lyles Jr.; one great-grandson, Brizen Harlow; along with three brothers, Clarence, John B. and Frankie; and three sisters, Gertrude, Edna, and Joyce Marie.
Billy leaves behind to cherish his memories; his loving wife of 68 1/2 years, Vonnie (Parker) Brown; a son, Barry S. Brown and wife Sandy; three daughters, Virginia Smith and husband Lester, Karen Hess and Lonnie, and Cindy Lyles and Paul; two brothers, Allen Brown and his wife Lynn, and Troy Brown and Carolyn; he also leaves one sister, Katy Knowling and husband Larry; twenty loving grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
