Asencion “Chona” Arenas, 77, of Bryan, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones on Wednesday, July 24, 2024.


Born in Calvert, Texas, she was the daughter of Dionisio and Francisca (Duran) Arenas. A fun loving, charismatic woman with a contagious laugh, Chona brought joy to all those who loved her. She enjoyed playing bingo and Loteria, creating beautiful works of embroidery, collecting dolls and was an incredible cook. She is remembered for her kindness, opening her heart and home to anyone who needed it. Above all, Chona lived her life fully and loved her family deeply.


A beloved mother and sister, Chona leaves behind 6 children: Pedro Perez Jr., Lorenzo Ramirez and wife Norma, Theresa Perez, Roberto Carreno and wife Deanna, Sonia Jimenez, Gavino Perez; and 3 siblings Paublino “Pelon” Arenas, Mary Ramirez and husband Lupe, and Silvia Arenas. In her passing, she leaves behind many life loves, including long term partner, Victor Dominguez. “Grandma Chona” or “Nana” made cherished memories with her twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.


She is preceded in death by her parents, a beautiful granddaughter, Erica Camarillo, and siblings Rufus Arenas, Visente “Pampo” Arenas, Lupe Sanchez, Theodora Arenas, Rosie Rivera, Johnny Arenas, and Irma Arenas.


Family and friends are welcome to attend a visitation from 5 pm to 8 pm Saturday, July 27, 2024, in the Chapel of Trevino Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Services are set for 1 pm, Sunday, July 28, 2024, in the Chapel of Trevino Smith Funeral Home, with a burial to follow in Bryan City Cemetery.
