Alice Ruth Angwin Mears Bellomy, 90 of Calvert passed away peacefully and went to her heavenly home on October 9, 2024. She was born February 28, 1934, in Birmingham, Alabama to Bennie and Grace Angwin. Ruth attended school in Alabama until her family moved to Calvert, Texas in April 1949. Her family settled in the Elmo community in Robertson County and she attended school in Calvert and joined the Calvert First Baptist Church in 1949.In December 1949 she married Donald Mears. Together they enjoyed farming and ranching in Robertson County and owned and operated several businesses in Calvert, Texas until Donald’s death in 1992. They were blessed to have six children during their 43-year marriage. After Donald’s death, Ruth worked various part time jobs in Robertson County for Calvert ISD, McCrary Ranch, Cain Dentistry and Katy Hamman-Stricker Library.
In 2000 Ruth married William Albert Bellomy, who passed away in 2001. Ruth loved to participate in volunteer work in her community and shared this love with her sister Evelyn Seigler. Together they made baby quilts to donate to Hope Pregnancy Center Brazos Valley. Her volunteer work extended to the Hospitality House Huntsville, American Red Cross, Still Creek Ranch, Sunnyside Cemetery Association and various other nonprofit organizations. Ruth served as the Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) Director for many years at the Calvert Baptist Church promoting and encouraging missions in the church. She loved traveling with the missionary team, spreading the Gospel and helping to establish churches. Ruth’s favorite hobby was making quilts with her sister Evelyn and spending time with family & friends at the Calvert Senior Center.
Ruth is preceded in death by: Parents, Bennie Lester Angwin and Margaret Grace Beard Angwin Ashe; Stepfather, Henry Ashe; Husbands, Donald Mears & William Albert Bellomy; Brother, Bennie William Angwin; Son, Gould Berry Mears; Daughter, Becky Ann Mears; and Great grandson, Cade Allen Mears.
Ruth is survived by her children: Nancy Bernice Froehling & husband, Edward, Donald Leroy Mears & wife, Becky, Suzanne Annette Wich & husband, George, and Jeffery Lynn Mears & wife, Katy; 11 Grandchildren, 25 Great-grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She is also survived by her siblings: Evelyn Grace Seigler of Calvert, Texas Betty Ann Blackburn of Bremond, Texas.
Church service will be officiated by Pastor Chris Lange of the First Baptist Church in Calvert at 10 AM Monday, October 21. Interment at Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert. Immediately following the services, you are invited to a time of celebration, fellowship and meal at Calvert First Baptist Church.
