Betty Valerian Obituary

Betty Ruth (Hicks) Valerian, 82, of Bryan passed away at her home on Monday, March 25, 2024.

Betty was born on April 20, 1941, to M.B. Hicks and Lola Laverta Leonard. She always spoke fondly of all the kids she grew up with in West Side Bryan and held a lot of West Side Pride. Betty first married at a young age and had four boys, two of whom she lost tragically. She was a hard working single mother all the way until she found the love of her life, Jodie Franklin Valerian, and they wed on August 8, 1981. She settled into a career as a secretary at Texas A&M University until she retired in 2005. She was elated to welcome the only girl she ever had with her granddaughter in 1990. Her beloved grandson, Jacob, was born in 1992. She was a proud grandmother and spent many late nights and weekends supporting their extracurricular activities. She loved her family and watching them grow theirs. She welcomed two great-grandsons in 2020 and 2022.

Betty will be most remembered for her infectious laugh and her sweet-as-sugar demeanor. She is preceded in death by her parents: M.B. & Lola Hicks; her sisters: Jean Jaggers, Jo Huff, Pat Hicks, Merle White and her brothers James Hicks and Robert Hicks; her sons Virgil German and Randall German. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jodie Valerian, her sons Dray German and Van German; her granddaughter Cassidy Currie and husband, Steven Currie Jr., her grandson, Jacob German and wife, Ivana Petro. Her great-grandsons: Chett Currie and Silas Currie; as well as her in-laws: Earl White and “Big” Betty Hicks.

The family extends a fond thank you to Hospice Brazos Valley for their loving care of Betty, especially nurses Jessica and Joe and nurse aid Theresa, all who Betty grew to adore.

Family will be welcoming visitors at Treviño-Smith Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 5-8pm with a 6pm Rosary.

Memorial Service will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bryan, TX, on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10am.
